Tiny Space Under the Stairs is Transformed Into a Toddler Reading and Writing Oasis!

May 24, 2014

I recently took a double take at the space under my stairs. It WAS harboring all kinds of junk. And then I thought, "Why am I using this delightful little space as storage?". Sometimes, my artistic bug bites me from out of the blue and directs me into different projects. This time I used this creative energy to transform a very dull and hidden area under my staircase. For this project, I was limited in what materials I could actually used. I made myself use what I already had. This also made me BE very creative. Not to mention I saved a bunch of cash. And in this economy, all the extra cash is appreciated! I spent a total of $15.29 for the chalk, chalkboard spray paint, and the mirror collage. I gathered some older pillows I was about to throw into the mission bag and used them a place to sit. The shelf came out of a corner. I dusted this off and added some books and toys. The paint had been left overs from my daughter's recent room renovation. And finally, I nailed a piece of pine wood to the wall for a book display. You never know where your creative energy might lead you!

Michaelmas: The Celebration of St. Michael the Archangel & Autumn

September 14, 2013

The Feast of St. Michael
"Michaelmas" is the term we use in Waldorf schools to describe a feast or festival that celebrates St. Michael's defeat against Satan in Heaven. The festival is named for the Archangel Michael, conqueror of the powers of darkness, the harvester of the deeds of human souls.  It is also a time where autumn has arrived. A time where we build and strengthen our inner lives. The equinox is a turning point. This year we will be celebrating by making a dragon cake! The drago...

Waldorf Window Star Art

August 22, 2013

I recently had the privilege to meet a wonderful Waldorf teacher and she recommended these Waldorf Stars. They are very easy to make and are a wonderful edition to any window. It really captivates the spirit of art and that is color! Look at how bright and beautiful it turned out. The paper is made of bees wax and can be purchased from her store in Maine. You can click here to purchase: http://www.bellalunatoys.com/waldorf-crafts/paper-crafts/window-star-paper.html

Homemade Goods to the Rescue!

December 3, 2012
This Christmas has seemed a bit "off". I am not sure why. This weekend I had a great time with a dear friend and we ended up going to do some shopping in a nearby town. As we went here and there, I really felt a little overwhelmed at the prices of items and then on top of it the poor quality and lack of original thinking that went into. Perhaps this is the artist coming out in me, but everything felt redundant and ordinary. This season I wanted to make a difference. Not in putting my buying p...
